Nscale in Talks for Second $45 Billion Anthropic Deal
The second Monarch building would use Nvidia's Vera Rubin chips
Summary
- Nscale is in talks with Anthropic about a second computing deal worth $45 billion. At the same time, investors are questioning Nscale's plan to seek a valuation of about $30 billion in its initial public offering (IPO).
Nscale, a London-based company that builds data centers for artificial intelligence (AI) and is backed by Nvidia
, is in talks to provide computing power to Anthropic in a deal that could be worth about $45 billion, Reuters reported, citing a person who knows about the matter. The deal would cover a second building at Nscale's Monarch data center campus in West Virginia. It would add to a $45 billion deal Anthropic made in August to rent computing power at the same campus. The second Monarch building would provide 460 megawatts of power using Nvidia's Vera Rubin chips. Anthropic also has the right to make the first offer if Nscale plans to rent out a third building, the person said.
The talks are happening as Nscale faces problems with its planned IPO. Microsoft (MSFT) withdrew from a deal to become the main customer for a major Nscale data center. Delays in connecting the site to the power supply pushed the expected date for power delivery into the 2030s. Investors have also questioned the roughly $30 billion value Nscale hopes to achieve, Bloomberg reported on Sunday. Nscale's IPO prospectus lists Microsoft and Anthropic as the company's expected major customers.
In two and a half years, Nscale has increased the total value of its contracted business from $100 million to more than $103 billion. It competes with Nebius Group (NBIS), Crusoe and Lambda.
