Federal prosecutors say Abdulrahman Alfozan, the man accused of secretly recording people at OpenAI's offices, planned to leave the country before he was arrested. Alfozan, an engineer at OpenAI, is accused of hiding a recording device in a conference room. He was arrested earlier this month. Court documents say he had a one-way ticket to Saudi Arabia and was talking with a member of the royal family about starting an AI project.
Alfozan's lawyers say he had planned his trip to his home country long before his arrest. The case comes as OpenAI continues to develop new AI tools and features, including those introduced at its DevDay 2026.
The case shows the challenges of balancing new technology with security concerns as OpenAI continues to expand its AI tools and services.
