Eric Schmidt reportedly owns about half as much of Anthropic as CEO Dario Amodei
Eric Schmidt’s wealth could soon grow even more. Bloomberg reports that the former Google CEO owns about 1% of Anthropic. He invested tens of millions of dollars in the leading AI company’s Series A funding round in 2021. At the time, the startup was valued at $461 million, according to data from PitchBook.
If Bloomberg’s estimate is correct, Schmidt owns a surprisingly large share of Anthropic compared with its co-founder and CEO, Dario Amodei, who holds 2% of the company, according to Reuters. Anthropic is widely expected to go public before the end of the year. Some high-end estimates value the company at as much as $2 trillion. At that value, Schmidt’s share could be worth up to $20 billion, adding that much to his wealth. Bloomberg currently estimates his net worth at $57.5 billion.
Schmidt has actively invested in technology companies since leaving his role as Google CEO in 2011. He invests through several organizations, including Tomorrow Ventures, Innovation Endeavors Management, and his family office, Hillspire. His other AI investments include Mistral, General Intuition, and Reflection AI.
