Meta’s Muse Reaches 10 Million Downloads Faster Than ChatGPT
Meta’s personal artificial intelligence assistant, Muse, was downloaded more than 10 million times in the United States and Canada during its first 35 days. This was reported in a Monday (Oct. 19) LinkedIn post by Sensor Tower, a company that studies digital markets.
In terms of downloads, Muse grew faster than OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Anthropic’s Claude and SpaceX’s Grok. Each of these other AI assistants took more than 100 days to reach 10 million downloads. Sensor Tower Vice President of Insights Seema M. Shah told Bloomberg this in a video shared in the post.
Shah said the other AI assistants were released around the world, while Muse is available only in the United States and Canada.
“ChatGPT arrived when AI was newer and getting less public attention, but it still shows how quickly people have started using AI,” Shah said.
Shah later added: “People have shown a lot of interest in Muse and these personal agents, compared with chatbots that people talk to directly.”
According to Sensor Tower’s post, 23% of Muse users in the United States were still using the app 14 days after they first used it. This was higher than the 17% rate recorded for Anthropic’s Claude when it first launched.
“So, [Muse] is keeping users at a higher rate than the other AI apps, but the question going forward is: How many users are active, and how much are they using it?” Shah said in the video. “It’s still too early to say for sure. We do know that Muse has about 2 million active users in the U.S. To compare, ChatGPT has 55 million, so there is still a very large gap.”
Meta launched Muse in the United States on Sept. 8. The company described it as a personal AI agent, a tool that can help people with tasks, designed to be easy to use and “built for everyone.”
Muse reached the No. 1 spot in Apple’s App Store rankings 10 days later, moving ahead of ChatGPT.
PYMNTS reported on Sept. 23 that Muse had surprised both Silicon Valley and Wall Street by reaching the top of the App Store rankings. Meta’s earlier AI apps had never reached that position.
Reuters reported on Oct. 6 that an analysis by Citi said Muse could become the “front door to the internet,” or a main way people get online services and information. The analysis said Muse could earn more than $27 billion in revenue by 2030.
