Event Cinemas Is Now Letting Australians Book Movie Tickets Through ChatGPT

Australians can now use ChatGPT to plan a trip to the movies. Event Cinemas is the first cinema chain in Australia to launch an app within the AI platform.

The new app lets people find movies, check screening times and book tickets through ChatGPT, all in one conversation.

The launch comes after EVT Hotels & Resorts became the first hotel group in Australia and New Zealand to launch an app within ChatGPT. Its parent company, EVT, is expanding its use of AI-powered services.

This move is also part of a wider effort to make ChatGPT a starting point for booking entertainment and leisure activities. However, it is not yet clear how readily people will use this technology.

Andrew Turner, EVT group general manager of technology and digital, said the launch reflects a change in how people plan their outings. “More and more people are turning to AI-powered conversations to plan their next outing,” he said.

“We want Event Cinemas to be the easiest cinema to find and to book within those experiences. Being first in Australia reflects our focus on adapting to changing customer behaviours and making the path from deciding on a film to sitting in the cinema as simple as possible.”
