Anthropic's revenue rose to $16.3 billion in the six months ending June 30, compared with $1.1 billion a year earlier. Meanwhile, spending on AI infrastructure nearly quadrupled to almost $9 billion.

Anthropic reported a net loss of more than $80 billion in the first half of 2026. The company also indicated that it might spend as much as $750 billion in the coming years to secure more computing power. The Wall Street Journal reported this on Tuesday.

The loss increased from $13 billion a year earlier. According to the report, which cited a draft document prepared for Anthropic's planned initial public offering (IPO), $72 billion of the loss came from accounting charges. These charges were linked to changes in the value of financial instruments the company had issued to raise money.

The figures show how much the race to develop artificial intelligence (AI) can cost. Investors are increasingly questioning whether the large amounts companies spend on computer chips and data centers will eventually bring enough returns.

Investors Question Anthropic's IPO Value

Reuters first reported in September that Anthropic had recorded a net loss of $42 billion in 2025. That report was part of a series of exclusive stories based on the company's IPO prospectus.

The company has benefited from the growing popularity of Claude Code, its coding assistant. Developers use the tool to write software and build apps.

However, some existing investors and people considering investing in Anthropic are thinking about valuing the AI company at a lower amount. This followed the release of its latest financial information, according to four people familiar with the matter who spoke to Reuters. They attended Anthropic's investor day last week.

Three of those people said investors at the event in San Francisco discussed a company value of around $1.5 trillion. This is much lower than the roughly $2 trillion value that had previously been expected for the planned November share sale.

Anthropic told investors at the meeting that its revenue in the third quarter rose 45% from the previous quarter to $16.8 billion. The company also said it had made a profit during the quarter after certain costs and items were excluded from its results.

If investors show less interest in Anthropic's IPO, it could affect the wider AI market. Investors believe the market's near-term outlook depends largely on whether the share sale succeeds. This comes before rival OpenAI could potentially go public next year.
