Washington, US, October 21 (ANI): OpenAI has bought Orchestra Bio, a platform that helps companies developing medicines coordinate their work. The move is part of OpenAI's effort to combine its artificial intelligence (AI) models with tools that manage the complicated process of turning scientific discoveries into new medicines.

The deal will bring Orchestra Bio's team and technology together with OpenAI's Rosalind, a collection of AI models and tools made for life sciences research. The combined platform aims to help scientists connect research findings with experiments, studies and decisions needed to develop possible treatments.

OpenAI said developing a new medicine takes about 10 to 15 years on average, from finding a biological target to getting approval from US regulators. The process involves many teams inside and outside a company. These teams often use separate systems, making it difficult to coordinate research and development work.

The company said AI could help manage these complicated tasks and spot problems that might delay medicine development.

Orchestra Bio lets scientists and programme leaders work with AI agents that monitor and track studies and drug development activities. These agents can identify how a problem in one part of a programme might affect other stages, collect useful information and compare possible ways to respond.

For example, a failed batch of medicine made during manufacturing could delay the start of a clinical trial. Orchestra's agents can help identify which tasks and schedules would be affected, allowing scientists and programme leaders to review their options and decide what to do next.

OpenAI's Rosalind platform includes GPT-Rosalind, which helps scientists explore questions about biology and chemistry, and Rosalind Workbench, which connects AI tools with scientific tools and data to support analysis and experiment planning.

The acquisition aims to expand AI's role beyond research and analysis to include coordinating the work needed to develop possible medicines.

OpenAI said its wider goal is to use AI throughout the drug development process, from exploring scientific ideas and planning experiments to understanding results and coordinating the next steps.

The company also highlighted its work with Novo Nordisk and Moderna. Its partnership with Novo Nordisk aims to help speed up research, development and commercial work while maintaining proper oversight. At Moderna, AI is helping teams turn findings from complex data into plans for experiments.

OpenAI said bringing Orchestra Bio together with Rosalind was a step towards helping scientists make more discoveries and helping promising medicines reach patients sooner. (ANI)
