Anthropic is renting data centers and working with outside companies to get more computing power for Claude. This creates a risk because these operators may not be as reliable as major cloud providers. Anthropic is struggling to get enough computing power from its main cloud partners.

Some of these operators have little experience running data centers and may be less reliable than large cloud providers. This raises a new concern as Anthropic expands its business and prepares for a possible first public sale of its shares, known as an initial public offering (IPO).

Amazon is still Anthropic's main cloud provider and partner for training AI models. Anthropic has also agreed to spend $30 billion on computing capacity from Microsoft Azure, while Google is another major provider. All three companies also compete with Anthropic in the AI market.

Anthropic has looked into renting up to 1 gigawatt of data-center capacity in the United States.

The company has also signed a multiyear deal for AI cloud services with IREN. IREN used to mine Bitcoin (BTC) but has since moved into AI data centers. The deal gives Anthropic access to computing power from graphics processing units (GPUs) beyond what its major cloud partners provide.

An updated confidential draft of Anthropic's IPO documents lists about $450 billion in cloud agreements over seven to 10 years. Its total computing commitments are more than $600 billion. Possible spending could rise to $750 billion if deals that are still being discussed are included.
