Meta's Muse AI Agent Gains Traction Ahead of Q3 Earnings, Hits 10 Million Downloads in 40 Days as OpenAI’s…

Meta Platforms Inc. (NASDAQ:META) has passed 10 million downloads with its Muse AI agent. This adds momentum to Meta's efforts to grow its AI business as U.S. downloads of OpenAI's ChatGPT decline.
Muse has recorded 10.9 million downloads since its launch in September. New data from Sensor Tower showed that more than 10.2 million of those downloads came from the U.S., suggesting that Meta's AI product has gained strong early support in its home market. Yahoo Finance reported this on Tuesday.
According to the data, only 11 other apps have reached more than 10 million U.S. downloads within 40 days. Meta's Threads app was the most recent example, reaching that goal in July 2023.
Sensor Tower estimated that Muse passed 2.5 million daily active users for the first time on October 16. The number of users grew 15% from the previous week during the seven days leading up to that date.
In comparison, U.S. downloads of OpenAI's ChatGPT fell 25% in the latest 30-day period compared with the previous 30 days, the report said.
Meta and OpenAI did not immediately respond to Benzinga's requests for comment.
Muse Faces Revenue Hopes
Muse's fast growth comes as Meta prepares to report its third-quarter earnings on Wednesday after the stock market closes.
Earlier this month, an analyst at Deutsche Bank said Muse could eventually bring in as much as 8% of Meta's total revenue by 2030, according to Yahoo Finance.
During Meta's second-quarter earnings call in July, CEO Mark Zuckerberg said personal AI agents would play a key role in the company's next stage of product development and ways to make money.
“We are developing new personal agents that will be the foundation for our next wave of products and revenue lines in the months and years ahead,” Zuckerberg said.
Privacy Concerns Mount Over Chat Links
However, the product is also facing questions about how it handles data sharing. On Tuesday, Meta paused Muse's conversation-sharing feature after security researchers said public domain name system (DNS) records could reveal thousands of links to shared chats.
Researchers at Claroc said Muse created sharing links that were easy to predict and included conversation titles in web addresses that followed a common format. The researchers reported that about 6,800 chats had been exposed.
Stock Price: Meta shares rose 5.18% from the start of the year, according to Benzinga Pro. In pre-market trading on Wednesday, the shares fell 0.28% to $692.30.
