OpenAI expands ChatGPT ads to 26 more countries
Investing.com -- OpenAI announced on Wednesday that it is bringing ads on ChatGPT to 26 more countries. This will increase the total number of markets where ads are available to 89. The artificial intelligence company is expanding its advertising business to earn more money ahead of a possible initial public offering (IPO), when a company first sells its shares to the public.
In August, the company said its advertising business had reached an annual revenue rate of $1 billion, based on how much it was earning at that time.
OpenAI began testing ads in ChatGPT in the United States earlier this year. The company says that more than 100,000 advertisers have run advertising campaigns on the platform since the test began.
The expansion adds 14 more countries in Latin America, including Argentina, Chile, Colombia and Peru. Ads had already launched in Mexico and Brazil.
Ads are also being introduced in countries across Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia. These include Nigeria, South Africa, Serbia, Ukraine, Cambodia, Bangladesh and Pakistan.
Advertisers in the new markets can use technology partners to access ChatGPT ads or manage their ads themselves through Ads Manager on OpenAI's platform.
Ads will appear only for people using ChatGPT's Free and Go plans. Plus, Pro and Enterprise subscriptions will continue to have no ads.
In September, OpenAI introduced AI-powered tools for advertisers and began testing business-sponsored agents with a small group of advertisers in the United States.
