Bitcoin is about 20% below a price level that once acted as a strong floor. Whether it can climb back to that level before 2027 depends on a few important signals that are starting to appear now.

The background is a dark blue with overlaid digital financial charts, including green and red candlestick patterns indicating price movements, line graphs in blue and pink, numerical data, and streaks of electric blue lightning.

Bitcoin (CRYPTO:BTC) was worth $83,316 on October 21, 2026, after gaining 2.1% in the previous 24 hours. To rise above $100,000 again, it needs to increase by about 20%. ChatGPT estimates a 40% chance that this will happen before the end of the year. Bitcoin is still 33.9% below its record high of $126,080, reached on October 6, 2025.

The $100,000 level is important because Bitcoin stayed above it for most of 2025 and also ended October 2025 above it. But in 2026, its highest monthly price came in January and stayed below $98,000. In June, Bitcoin fell as low as $58,000. Since then, it has recovered by 27.7% over the past 90 days.

So, is it realistic for Bitcoin to return to $100,000 by the end of 2026?

ChatGPT Estimates a 40% Chance for Bitcoin to Rise Above $100,000 in 2026

ChatGPT gives a mixed outlook. It estimates a 40% chance that Bitcoin will trade above $100,000 at some point in 2026. However, it sees only a 25% chance that Bitcoin will finish December above that price, and a 60% chance that it will not reach $100,000 at all this year.

A short rise above $100,000 would rule out the 60% scenario. But for the 25% scenario to happen, Bitcoin would need to finish December above that level.

Reaching $100,000 now requires more investment than it did in earlier years. Bitcoin's total market value is about $1.67 trillion. Around 20.1 million BTC are in circulation, out of a maximum supply of 21 million. As miners continue to create new coins, Bitcoin would need a larger total market value to reach $100,000 in late 2026 than it needed to reach the same price in early 2025.

Bitcoin is already the world's largest cryptocurrency, making up 59.6% of the total value of the crypto market. This means that a return to $100,000 would require new money to enter the market.

Three Key Factors That Could Help Bitcoin Reach $100,000

  1. Rising above $87,700. Glassnode data shows that $87,700 is the average price paid by recent Bitcoin buyers. This is 5.3% above Bitcoin's current price. ChatGPT says that if Bitcoin closes a day above this level and then stays stable, it could rise to $90,000, then $95,000, and finally $100,000. At these prices, recent buyers could recover their money and become less likely to sell.
  2. Steady demand for Bitcoin ETFs. On October 19, U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs attracted $527 million. But the money coming in dropped to just $23 million the next day. ChatGPT wants to see steady investment over several weeks. Recent price movements support this view: Bitcoin has fallen about 4% since September 21, when it saw its largest daily inflow in the past month. This shows that one big day of investment is not enough.
  3. Stable price movements and enough money in the market. Bitcoin's 28-day volatility, which measures how much its price moves up and down, is currently 1.2%, close to its lowest level in 2026. Such quiet periods can come before large price moves in either direction. Meanwhile, the M2 money supply, which includes cash and bank deposits, reached $23.3 trillion in August, its highest level of the year. This often helps assets such as Bitcoin.

The chart, set against a dark blue digital background with abstract glowing blue lines, displays numerous green and red candlesticks and a prominent white trendline rising sharply upwards, marked with 'BUY' and 'SELL' indicators. The overall mood is futuristic and technological.

In its main forecast, ChatGPT expects Bitcoin's price to settle into a range before recovering part of its losses and moving closer to the average price paid by recent buyers. It sees $88,000 as the most likely price at the end of the year and does not expect a quick return to previous record highs.

On the downside, ChatGPT estimates a 20% chance that Bitcoin will fall below $70,000 before the end of the year, a drop of about 16%. This risk falls to 10% to 15% if Bitcoin rises above $87,700 and stays there. ChatGPT does not expect the risk to increase as long as Bitcoin trades above its 50-day average of $81,567 and recent ETF demand continues to show that large institutions remain interested.

Setting a new record looks much harder. Bitcoin would need to rise 51% to pass $126,080. ChatGPT estimates a 25% chance that this will happen by 2027. This estimate is based on three possible outcomes: a 25% chance of a strong market, a 40% chance of its main forecast, and a 35% chance of a weak market. If large investors increase their demand and market conditions improve quickly, the chance of a new record could rise to 45%.

Can Bitcoin Reach $100,000 in 2026?

Overall, Bitcoin has a reasonable chance of briefly reaching $100,000 in 2026, but finishing the year above that level looks unlikely. ChatGPT's estimates support this view. To keep the $100,000 target within reach, Bitcoin first needs to close above $87,700 and stay there. It would then need several weeks of steady investment in Bitcoin ETFs.

Waiting also carries risks. If Bitcoin cannot stay above $87,700, ChatGPT expects it could fall back to about $83,000 and possibly reach $80,000. A confirmed close above $87,700 could keep hopes of reaching $100,000 alive this year. But if Bitcoin falls below its 50-day average of $81,567, finishing December above $100,000 would become increasingly unlikely.
