Anthropic signs an AI safety agreement with Singapore as it opens an office there

The agreement explains how the two sides plan to work together. Their plans include testing AI safety, studying how people use AI, and encouraging responsible AI use in government and business.

Anthropic plans to share testing work and data with Singapore's safety institutions

Permanent Secretary Kai Fong Chng and Anthropic co-founder Ben Mann signed the agreement at Singapore International Cyber Week. Minister Josephine Teo watched the signing.

Anthropic says it will hold technical meetings with Singapore's AI safety and testing institutions. They will discuss how to evaluate AI models, set testing standards, and respond to incidents. Anthropic also plans to share research and data, including information from its Economic Index, to help Singapore develop its AI rules. The company does similar work with safety institutes in other places. Six METR staff members now work inside Anthropic as independent evaluators, according to MIXED.

"Singapore has been a leader in responsible AI, with a long track record of investment in model testing and evaluation," Mann said.

Singapore uses Claude about six times more than its population would predict

Anthropic's Economic Index ranks Singapore second among 121 countries for Claude.ai use compared with population size. People in Singapore use it nearly six times more than the country's population alone would suggest.

The Singapore government is a major user of the technology. More than 1,500 engineers and technical staff at GovTech Singapore use Claude Code to update and improve government computer systems. The Cyber Security Agency of Singapore is looking into how Claude could help protect against cyberattacks.

Companies using Claude include DBS, the largest bank in Southeast Asia, and Grab. Anthropic says Grab's sales assistant, which is based on Claude, saves its teams about 40,000 hours every three months. GIC, Singapore's sovereign wealth fund, is introducing Claude across its investment and corporate teams.
