Oct 21: Anthropic said on Wednesday that Christopher Stubbs, a former dean of science at Harvard University, had joined its oversight group. This group has the power to appoint most of the members of the AI startup's board.
Here are some details:
• The oversight group is called the Long-Term Benefit Trust. It advises Anthropic's leaders on important decisions about the risks of AI and its effects on society.
• Other members of the trust include Ben Bernanke, a former chair of the US Federal Reserve, and Richard Fontaine, an expert on national security.
• Stubbs is an experimental physicist and a professor of physics and astronomy at Harvard. He was part of the High-Z Supernova Search Team, which helped discover that the universe is expanding at an increasing rate.
• Anthropic develops the Claude family of AI models. It is a Public Benefit Corporation, a type of company that is formally allowed to balance the interests of its shareholders with wider concerns about society.
