OpenAI started testing ads on ChatGPT in the United States earlier this year. Since then, more than 100,000 advertisers have run ads on the platform, the company said.

ChatGPT ads expand to more countries

ChatGPT ads are also launching in parts of Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia. The new markets include Nigeria, South Africa, Serbia, Ukraine, Cambodia, Bangladesh and Pakistan.

Advertisers in these new markets can access ChatGPT ads through technology partners. They can also use a self-service option through Ads Manager on OpenAI's platform. ChatGPT ads will only appear on the Free and Go subscription plans. People with Plus, Pro and Enterprise subscriptions will continue to use ChatGPT without ads, OpenAI said.

In September, OpenAI introduced AI-powered tools to help advertisers manage their ad campaigns. It also began testing AI agents sponsored by businesses with selected advertisers in the United States, according to Reuters.

OpenAI GPT-6 Astra models on Google Cloud

Along with expanding its advertising business, OpenAI plans to make its advanced AI models and Codex coding tool available through Google Cloud in the coming weeks. The two companies announced the plan on Wednesday, according to Reuters.

The partnership will bring OpenAI's latest AI models, including GPT-6 Astra, to Google Cloud's Model Garden. This will let businesses find and use OpenAI's models through Google's cloud platform.

Businesses can buy OpenAI AI models

Customers will be able to buy these models through Google Cloud Marketplace. They can also use money they have already agreed to spend on Google Cloud to pay for them, according to a company blog post.

This move is part of OpenAI's plan to sell its AI models to more enterprise customers. These are businesses and large organisations that use technology to do their work. The partnership will also help businesses in industries with strict rules access OpenAI's models through the security and data management systems already offered by Google Cloud. These industries must follow strict rules about how they handle information.

Businesses will be able to use Google's tools for controlling access, managing data and running systems to build AI workflows. These workflows use AI agents that can perform tasks and complete several steps to reach a goal.

OpenAI expands AI model sales beyond Microsoft

Google is the latest major cloud provider to offer OpenAI's models to its customers. This follows the end of OpenAI's exclusive distribution deal with Microsoft in April. Since that deal ended, OpenAI has made its AI models and Codex coding tool available through Amazon Web Services (AWS) and now Google Cloud. Amazon and Google both run major cloud computing platforms and compete to attract customers who want to use AI, Reuters reported.

The partnership shows how the relationship between OpenAI and Google is becoming more complicated. The companies compete in major AI products and search services, but they are also working together as the cost of developing and running advanced AI models rises.

Google Cloud offers more AI models to businesses

Google wants its cloud business to be a platform where customers can choose from many AI models instead of having to use only Google's own technology. Last year, Google also made a deal with OpenAI to provide it with more computing power.

Thomas Kurian, chief executive of Google Cloud, previously told Reuters that the platform supports different AI models and welcomes models that developers like to use. Offering OpenAI's models supports Google's plan to give customers more AI options from other companies. It also helps Google Cloud attract businesses that want to use OpenAI's technology without depending only on OpenAI's own systems.

Cloud providers become key AI sales channels

Cloud providers are becoming important ways for leading AI companies to sell their products. They help AI developers reach business customers by offering their models through cloud platforms that businesses already use. Cloud providers generally earn part of the money from sales made through their platforms.

Anthropic, a rival of OpenAI backed by Amazon and Google, also shows how important these partnerships have become. According to Anthropic's initial public offering (IPO) filing, which Reuters reviewed, 47% of its revenue in 2025 came through Amazon's and Google's cloud platforms.

OpenAI's expansion of ChatGPT ads and its partnership with Google Cloud show how the company is finding different ways to reach customers. Advertising helps it reach more people who use ChatGPT, while cloud partnerships make its AI models and coding tools available to more businesses.
