Anthropic announces preview of Claude Duet, a personal AI agent to take on Muse, Dots
Anthropic announced on Wednesday that it is offering an early preview of Claude Duet, an artificial intelligence agent that could compete with OpenAI's Dots and Meta's Muse.
Anthropic said Claude Duet is made for small businesses and professionals. It can send users daily summaries, monitor connected apps, and handle tasks such as building dashboards, scheduling meetings, and making financial forecasts.
"It comes to you with what needs your attention, completes tasks you ask of it, keeps working even when you step away, and checks with you before it acts on your behalf," Anthropic said in a blog post.
The launch comes as similar products from Meta and OpenAI are starting to gain real traction with users. Meta launched Muse, which it calls a "personal AI agent," last month. The app quickly rose to the top of Apple's App Store. A few weeks later, OpenAI introduced Dots, its "always-on agents," at its annual developer conference.
Meta has mainly promoted its agent to everyday consumers, while OpenAI's product is aimed at both businesses and consumers. Anthropic said on Wednesday that Claude Duet is mainly designed for work, so it is "not quite as strong" at personal tasks, such as booking tickets.
Anthropic and OpenAI have been strong rivals for a long time. Over much of the past year, they have released competing AI models and fought to win more business customers. Meanwhile, Meta has been changing its AI strategy and spending billions of dollars on new efforts to compete with the leading AI developers. As personal AI agents become more popular, Meta hopes to benefit from this growing interest.
Meta reported its third-quarter earnings after the stock market closed on Wednesday. CEO Mark Zuckerberg told analysts that more than 10 million people in the U.S. and Canada had "set up Muse personal agents" over the past six weeks. Muse's early success helped Meta finish September with its best month on Wall Street since 2022.
Anthropic said on Wednesday that Claude Duet is still at an early stage. It warned that the agent "might misread a thread or miscalibrate what's urgent."
The company opened a waiting list for Claude Duet on Wednesday. It said eligible users will be able to use the agent through a separate app or the Claude website. During the preview, Claude Duet is available to Pro and Max subscribers.
