Summary
OpenAI has expanded its business strategy by partnering with Google Cloud to offer its GPT-6 models and Codex tools on Google's platform. Google Cloud now offers access to all three leading families of closed-source large language models (LLMs): OpenAI's models, Google's Gemini, and Anthropic's Claude. This makes Google Cloud the only major cloud provider to offer all three in one place.
Big technology companies are putting their rivalries aside as they compete to meet the needs of businesses, wherever developers already build their apps. AI companies are working to make their tools available on the platforms businesses already use. OpenAI and Google Cloud have announced a major agreement that brings OpenAI's newest advanced models directly to Google's cloud platform. This means software developers and company IT teams can use OpenAI's tools alongside Google's own Gemini models and Anthropic's Claude.
GPT-6 models and Antigravity coding tools
This deal completes another important part of OpenAI's plan to make its models available through major cloud providers. After its exclusive hosting deal with Microsoft ended earlier this year, OpenAI quickly expanded to Amazon Web Services to reach more business customers. Adding Google Cloud means OpenAI's models are now available directly through all three major US cloud providers.
Under the new partnership, Google's Model Garden will offer the full GPT-6 family. This includes Astra, the most powerful model; Sol, which balances power and speed; and Luna, which is designed to respond quickly. Developers can also connect OpenAI's Codex coding agent directly to Google Antigravity, Google's development environment that uses AI agents to help build software. In an interview with Axios, Mike Leone, an analyst at Moor Insights & Strategy, said this setup gives engineering teams the freedom to test leading AI models without moving their existing company data.
Google Cloud becomes an all-in-one AI platform
Hosting technology from a major rival fits Google's plan to offer businesses an open platform for their software. Google Cloud is now the only major cloud provider that offers all three leading families of closed-source large language models in one place. Reuters reports that Google wants businesses to use Gemini, but it can still earn steady money from cloud computing services, data security, and storage no matter which AI model its customers choose.
Rollout schedule and enterprise purchasing
Companies can buy access through Google Cloud Marketplace and use money they have already committed to spending on Google Cloud to pay for OpenAI models. Google also promises strict data protections. Prompts and model responses will remain private, and outside parties will not be allowed to use them to train models. OpenAI's GPT-6 models are now being made available in a private preview for selected business customers. Wider access and full API access are expected to launch through Google Cloud Marketplace and Antigravity in the coming weeks.
