Adobe Lightroom Mobile Adds Generative AI Open Eyes Feature

Adobe has added a new feature called Open Eyes to the mobile version of Lightroom. This AI tool can fix closed eyes in portrait photos with one tap. It looks through your photo library for other pictures of the same person and uses them to match their eye color, shape, and lighting. People using the free version can try the tool twice before they need an Adobe Creative Cloud subscription.

The feature works in Lightroom apps for iOS, iPadOS, and Android. When Lightroom finds closed eyes in an uploaded portrait, it shows a Quick Action button on the photo. Tapping the button makes the tool search your Lightroom library for other pictures of the same person. It uses those pictures to find details such as eye size, iris color, and facial symmetry. Then it blends the eyes into the photo so the lighting and head angle look natural.

Photoshop Elements once had a similar tool for replacing eyes, but users had to cut eyes from another photo and paste them in by hand. Lightroom does this automatically using generative AI models that can create and change images. Adobe lets free users make two automatic corrections. After both uses, the app asks users to buy a paid Creative Cloud plan to keep using the tool.
