OpenAI brings AI models to Google Cloud, says Microsoft remains primary cloud partner

OpenAI is making its artificial intelligence models available to more businesses through Google Cloud. Businesses can access its most advanced models and Codex tools through Google Cloud’s Model Garden. This gives organisations another way to use AI tools for software development and build AI agents that can carry out tasks on their own within their existing cloud systems.
The partnership brings together OpenAI’s models and Google Cloud’s computing power, security tools and data management features. Businesses can use the models to build AI-powered workflows, improve how they develop software and bring AI into everyday workplace tasks.
Even with this wider partnership, Microsoft will remain OpenAI’s primary cloud partner.
Google Cloud customers can buy OpenAI models
Businesses will be able to buy OpenAI models through Google Cloud Marketplace and access them through Model Garden. Customers that have already agreed to spend a certain amount on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) can also use those spending commitments for eligible purchases of OpenAI models.
This agreement gives businesses more freedom to choose the AI models that best meet their needs. They can also access the technology through cloud systems they already use.
OpenAI said Google Cloud was a good platform for making its models available to more customers because it already has strong AI infrastructure and a well-established community of developers.
Greg Brockman, president and co-founder of OpenAI, said the partnership would make the company’s most capable models and Codex available to developers and businesses already using Google Cloud. He added that the partnership would give customers more ways to use advanced AI as the range of AI agents grows.
Business controls for industries with strict rules
The partnership also aims to help organisations that need stronger controls over sensitive information and how AI is used. Businesses in areas such as finance, healthcare and public infrastructure can use OpenAI’s models alongside Google Cloud’s management tools and centralised systems for controlling data.
These features are designed to help businesses control who can access information and keep track of how data is used while running demanding AI tasks.
Thomas Kurian, chief executive officer of Google Cloud, said the company wanted to give customers a wider choice of AI models. This would help them choose the best model for each task, potentially improve the quality of results and lower costs.
Plans to connect with Google’s AI tools
OpenAI’s models are also expected to become available through Google Antigravity and Gemini Agent in the coming weeks. This planned expansion will let business customers choose from different foundation models for software development and other tasks powered by AI.
OpenAI said wider access would give businesses more ways to find, test and start using its models through Google Cloud. The models are planned to become generally available in the coming weeks. Customers can request access through OpenAI’s Google Cloud programme.
The partnership allows OpenAI to offer its technology through more cloud platforms, while Microsoft remains its main cloud partner.
