Abu Dhabi, UAE – M42 Group, a global company that specializes in healthcare using artificial intelligence, technology, and genomics, has announced the launch of Ossi, a new platform for clinical care. The announcement was made at the Future of Health Summit in Abu Dhabi. Ossi uses a team of AI agents, or software systems that perform specific tasks. It aims to reduce doctors' paperwork, give them more time to talk directly with patients, and improve healthcare using data and scientific evidence.

The platform uses Microsoft's secure Azure cloud computing and artificial intelligence systems. It also uses secure AI technologies that work close to where data is collected and used. These tools are designed to combine accurate clinical information with clear communication between people. They reduce the amount of medical paperwork doctors must complete and help doctors find health information and clinical advice based on scientific evidence when treating patients.

Healthcare facilities

Ossi is now being used at seven M42 Group healthcare facilities in the UAE and Bahrain. These include Amanat Emirates, Amanat Bahrain, Health Point, Health Plus, Mubadala Healthcare Dubai, Sheikh Sultan bin Zayed Hospital, and the Imperial College London Diabetes and Endocrinology Centre in Abu Dhabi.

The platform's name comes from the English word “Ossicle,” which means one of the tiny bones in the ear. These bones help people hear, and the name reflects the platform's ability to listen carefully and smoothly capture information shared by doctors.

Just as these tiny bones help make sounds clearer and stronger, Ossi adds useful background to clinical information by drawing on patients' past medical records and advice based on scientific evidence. It follows approved rules for protecting patient information and keeping medical data private.

The platform is designed to improve the experience of receiving medical care by allowing doctors to focus on patients and their needs instead of spending so much time writing records. This can help doctors and patients communicate more effectively and bring benefits to both.

Using artificial intelligence

Ossi was built using the technical systems developed by M42 and Microsoft's Azure AI technology. At launch, it includes four AI agents. These are the first stage of a wider set of tools that will grow over time to support doctors in different parts of their clinical work.

The first tool, called the Ambient Scribe Agent, listens to conversations between doctors and patients and prepares medical notes for doctors to check. The Health Record Agent finds and summarizes useful information from electronic medical records, helping doctors understand a patient's medical history more quickly.

The Clinical Q&A Agent helps doctors find relevant medical information and prepare educational materials for patients in clear, easy-to-understand language. The Coding Agent suggests suitable medical codes based on the information written in clinical records. The appropriate teams review these suggestions.

Support for multiple languages

Ossi does not depend on one specific large language model (LLM), a type of AI system that works with human language. It supports several languages and can connect to existing electronic medical record systems. It does this using the Health Information Level 7 (HL7) and Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) standards, which help different health systems share information, or through specially designed application programming interfaces (APIs), which allow software systems to communicate.

As part of their partnership, M42 and Microsoft worked to make sure Ossi meets the highest standards for health data security and privacy worldwide. The platform also follows institutional rules and regional requirements for managing data, including the rules that apply in the UAE.
