"When you say that AI will bring human civilisation to an end, first of all, that is not true," he told a conference organised by his company in Berlin.

Huang added that such claims make "headlines" but are "made up" and "cheap". His visit to Berlin was the final stop on his tour of Europe.

After cases in which AI systems got around safety controls during tests, there has been a heated debate about whether AI poses a serious threat to humanity's future.

In September, a researcher quit Anthropic, warning that leading AI companies were "gambling with our lives". The heads of Anthropic and another major AI company, OpenAI, have also called for AI development to slow down.

Huang strongly disagrees with this view. He has argued that work on AI should continue at full speed.

Speaking in Berlin, he urged the world to take an approach of "responsible optimism" towards AI.

"If you care about the future beyond our own lives, if we care about the future of sustainability, this is the perfect time -- build AI," he said.

"Don't try to stifle AI."

US regulators are not expected to step in to place strict limits on AI development.

President Donald Trump opposes strict rules for AI. In September, he said the US government would use the name "super intelligence" for the technology in official communications.

During Huang's tour of Europe, Nvidia promised to invest nearly $10 billion in Europe's technology sector. The company also urged Europe, which is falling behind in the race to develop AI, to move faster.
