The Petrie-Flom Center for Health Law Policy, Biotechnology, and Bioethics at Harvard Law School is pleased to announce its 2027 Annual Conference, Generative AI in Healthcare: Law and Regulation.
Generative AI is a type of artificial intelligence that creates things, such as text or images, that usually require human intelligence. It has become an important part of the economy and political discussions, and it is playing a growing role in healthcare. This conference and the book of edited papers that will follow it will explore how laws and regulations can and should guide the future use of generative AI in healthcare.
We are now accepting abstracts, which are due by December 1. People whose abstracts are accepted will present their work at a writers’ workshop on May 3. Please read our call for abstracts for more details.
The conference will explore several important questions. How should generative AI be introduced, used, supervised, and monitored in healthcare? Who should oversee the development of new tools? How can their safety and effectiveness be tested? What laws, regulations, or other legal systems would be best for overseeing these tools? Who should be held responsible when something goes wrong? How should these tools become part of the systems that pay for healthcare, provide insurance, and deliver care?
