OpenAI continues to hire experienced partner leaders from major cloud companies like Google Cloud and AWS. Its latest hire is a new partner director who will lead go-to-market efforts.

OpenAI has hired Ignacio Guillen, a former AWS partner sales leader, as its new partner director responsible for go-to-market efforts. OpenAI is a leading AI company.

“At AWS, I helped businesses adopt cloud technology,” Guillen said in a LinkedIn post announcing his new job.

“Over the past few months, I’ve been working with customers to apply AI across their businesses. I’m excited to bring that experience to OpenAI and continue working with customers and partners,” said Guillen, OpenAI’s new partner director for go-to-market.

Guillen worked at AWS for more than eight years, from 2018 until April 2026.

His latest job at AWS was senior leader of partner sales for commercial customers.

OpenAI Hires Cloud Partner Leaders And Launches OpenAI Partner Network

Guillen joins OpenAI’s growing team of partner leaders, many of whom have worked at cloud companies such as AWS and Google Cloud.

This year, Google Cloud’s global leader of partner programs, Colleen Kapase, left the company to join OpenAI.

Google Cloud’s managing director of its partner network, Philip Larson, also recently left to join OpenAI.

Last month, OpenAI hired Brian Kane, a former executive at Google and AWS, as its new director of cloud partnerships.

This summer, OpenAI officially launched its first major partner program, the OpenAI Partner Network.

OpenAI is putting an initial $150 million into the program to support its partners and help them bring AI benefits to more organizations more quickly.

The company plans to train and prepare 300,000 certified consultants to work with its technology by the end of 2026.

AWS Partner CEO Says New Hires Will Strengthen Partnership

Justin Copie, CEO of AWS partner company Innovative Solutions, said OpenAI is making a big impact on the partner business this year. He pointed to its hiring of experienced leaders and efforts to help partners learn to use OpenAI technology connected to cloud providers.

Copie believes OpenAI benefits from hiring partner leaders with strong experience at major cloud companies such as AWS and Google Cloud. Their knowledge can help them quickly build relationships and get work started across the partner network.

“We’re going to be building this OpenAI partnership with confidence,” Copie added.

Innovative Solutions believes these hires will help OpenAI and AWS work together more closely and speed up their plans to connect their technologies, giving them a stronger position against competitors.

“For us, it’s all about OpenAI on [Amazon] Bedrock,” said Copie. “It’s exactly what customers have been asking for. We’re going to actually be releasing some things over the next few weeks with OpenAI specifically to start migrating those OpenAI workloads onto AWS versus Azure.”

Guillen’s Career In Partner Sales At Google, Eliza And Cisco Meraki

Over nearly 20 years, Guillen has held different sales and management jobs at companies including Google, Cisco Meraki and global manufacturer Venair Group.

In 2015, Guillen worked at Cisco Meraki as a channel sales account executive. His job included helping Cisco win a larger share of the market in certain regions.

He later joined Google Cloud as an enterprise territory manager. In 2017, he received Google's President’s Club award for his work.

Most recently, he briefly worked at Eliza, a startup that provides AI consulting and helps businesses put AI into use.

“Thank you for the warm welcome to OpenAI,” Guillen said on LinkedIn. “Let’s get to work.”
