Several Google DeepMind employees have quit in recent weeks because of the company's contract with the Pentagon. The contract allows the US military to use Google's AI technology in secret operations.

Sofia Liguori, a research engineer, left the company because she felt ashamed of how AI systems were being used in military operations.

Another AI researcher, Andreas Kirsch, also quit. He said he was worried about how Google makes decisions and checks the use of AI in military settings.

The Pentagon's efforts to use AI have raised concerns. People have questioned how much control there is over the use of this technology in secret military settings.

Google's contract allows its AI to be used for “any lawful government purpose.” However, it sets limits on using AI for large-scale spying on people inside the United States and for weapons that can operate and attack without human control.
