Uber Deploys OpenAI Agents to All 30,000 Employees

Uber has made OpenAI's ChatGPT Work available to all 30,000 of its employees around the world. Before this, Uber tested the tool with 1,000 employees. OpenAI shared the news in a press release on Thursday, October 22.
According to the announcement, ChatGPT Work is an AI agent that can handle difficult tasks with several steps inside ChatGPT Enterprise. It is designed to complete the work and deliver a finished result.
Uber employees can use the AI agent to find and study information, prepare notes for meetings, make presentations, study data, and complete tasks that involve several different apps, OpenAI said.
Uber's developers and software engineering teams will also keep using OpenAI's Codex to help them build software and write code, according to the announcement.
Uber's Chief Technology Officer, Praveen Neppalli Naga, said AI is changing how people work. He said Uber wants to give every employee tools that help them come up with new ideas, solve problems, and play a part in the company's future. He described giving ChatGPT Work to everyone at Uber as an exciting step toward that goal. He also said he was eager to see what Uber's teams would create with the tool.
OpenAI President and Co-Founder Greg Brockman said Uber teams can now use OpenAI's collection of advanced AI models and agents. He said these tools will help employees handle harder tasks, connect the apps and tools they use every day, and get more work done.
OpenAI started making ChatGPT Work available on July 9. The company described it as a new AI agent built to handle work that is harder than a normal chat request. OpenAI said ChatGPT Work can take actions using a person's apps and files. It can also spend hours working on a project when needed. The tool can create finished materials such as spreadsheets, presentations, documents, web apps, and other types of work.
On October 9, Bloomberg reported that OpenAI's business services for companies were helping its yearly revenue grow. OpenAI's annualized revenue, which estimates a full year's revenue based on its current pace, was expected to reach at least $70 billion by the end of 2026. That would be an increase from $50 billion at the end of September.
In May, PYMNTS reported that Uber had introduced an AI assistant for drivers that uses OpenAI technology. The assistant takes live information about Uber's marketplace and turns it into advice about where drivers should position themselves. OpenAI also provides the technology behind an Uber feature for riders. This feature includes a voice tool that lets people book rides by speaking naturally, as they would when talking to another person.
