Finom, a European company that helps small and medium-sized businesses manage their money, has launched Finom MCP. This new tool connects business accounts directly to AI assistants such as Claude and ChatGPT. It uses an open technology called Model Context Protocol (MCP). Business owners can now ask questions about their latest payments, spending and invoices using everyday language. They do not need to keep switching between their AI assistant and banking app.

What was announced

Finom MCP is a connection built using the open Model Context Protocol (MCP). It is designed for small and medium-sized businesses and people who run their own companies. It lets customers look at their financial information from inside AI assistants made by other companies. When it first launches, the tool can only read information. Customers can ask about payments, transactions, wallets, invoices, cards and accounting. For example, someone could ask the assistant to "analyse all my spendings for 2026" or "list transactions over €500 last month". They can do this in the same AI assistant they already use to write documents and make plans.

Finom MCP is included in every Finom plan across Europe. It starts rolling out across the European Union today. Finom says security is an important part of the new tool. Customers choose to connect their accounts through the settings in their AI assistant. They then sign in on a page run by Finom. This means they do not have to share their Finom login details with the AI company. The assistant can only see information that the customer is already allowed to access through their Finom account. Customers can also turn off the connection whenever they want. For now, the tool focuses on finding information and giving a morning update about recent account activity. Finom plans to add more features later. These include letting AI assistants prepare everyday tasks that customers must approve before they happen, and connecting more Finom services to the tool.

"Important discussions about AI and business money now happen inside AI assistants. Business owners already use these tools to write, plan and study information, so they should also be able to access their accounts there. We are not the first company to make MCP publicly available, and we are not claiming to be. We are starting by letting customers read their account information. Later, we plan to let them make changes and carry out actions. We are building this using an open standard instead of a system that only works with our own products."

The companies involved

Finom is a European financial platform used by more than 300,000 businesses and entrepreneurs. It aims to give small and medium-sized businesses one place to manage their money. Its services include banking, creating and managing invoices, and accounting. The company operates from the Netherlands. It focuses on business owners who prefer to use digital tools. Finom often adds new technology to make everyday office and financial tasks easier and faster.

Finom competes with many other newer digital banking and financial technology companies in Europe that serve businesses. The company has been using AI more and more as part of its plans. This work is led by Chief AI Officer Ivo Dimitrov and Chief Product Officer Kristjan Kaar. Finom chose to use Model Context Protocol instead of creating its own private connection. MCP is becoming a common open way for AI assistants to communicate with other tools. This follows a wider trend in financial technology. Companies want to become the main place where businesses manage their finances. To do this, they are adding their services to tools that customers already use, including AI assistants powered by large language models (LLMs).

What FF News has reported before

FF News has covered Finom's fast growth and its move into new products in 26 earlier reports. In June 2026, Finom launched its own AI assistant to help small and medium-sized businesses manage their finances automatically. That was an earlier step toward today's connection with outside AI assistants. Before that, Finom partnered with Porters to automate behind-the-scenes office tasks. Finom has also introduced more physical products, including its Metal Premium Business Card. The company has also used major sports partnerships to make its brand better known. Recently, it signed a deal lasting several years to become the Official B2B Financial Platform of Juventus FC.

What this means

This change shows how business banking could move away from separate banking apps. Instead, people may increasingly manage their banking information through AI assistants. This approach is sometimes called "headless" banking, because the bank's own app is no longer the main way customers use its services. By choosing MCP, Finom is supporting technology that different companies can use together, rather than trying to keep customers inside its own AI system. This could put pressure on traditional business banks that still use separate systems and reports that people must prepare by hand. The next big challenge is moving from letting AI read information to letting it prepare actions that could change an account. Asking AI to find information carries less risk. But allowing it to prepare financial transactions raises important questions. For example, who is responsible if something goes wrong? And how reliable are the checks that make sure a person reviews and approves an action before an automated system carries it out?

Finom, the European financial platform used by more than 300,000 small and medium-sized businesses and entrepreneurs, has launched Finom MCP today. The new connection lets customers ask questions about their Finom accounts in everyday language without leaving their own AI assistants. Finom MCP uses the open Model Context Protocol (MCP) and works with Claude and ChatGPT. It is included in every Finom plan across Europe.

Finom MCP in brief

  • What it is: A connection that lets Finom customers ask questions about their own accounts from inside Claude or ChatGPT.
  • What you can ask: Questions about transactions, wallets, invoices, cards and accounting. You can also get a morning update about recent business activity.
  • What it does not do: It cannot move money, issue cards or change your account. It also does not give advice about finances, taxes, laws, investments or insurance.
  • Who controls it: The customer. They connect using their own Finom login. The assistant can only access information their Finom role already allows them to see. They can disconnect whenever they want.
  • Availability: It is included in all Finom plans and starts rolling out across the European Union today.

Why this matters now

More of the everyday work of running a business now happens inside AI assistants. Business owners and finance teams use Claude and ChatGPT every day to write, plan and study information. But checking a number in a business bank account usually means leaving the AI assistant, signing in to another app and looking through a table of information. Finom MCP removes that extra step. Customers can ask the assistant to "analyse all my spendings for 2026" or "list transactions over €500 last month". The assistant can then answer using up-to-date information from their real Finom account, without making them leave the AI tool they are already using.

Finom MCP uses Model Context Protocol, an open standard that is quickly becoming a common way for AI assistants to connect with the business tools people already use. Finom has chosen this shared technology instead of building a private connection that only works within its own system.

You connect it, and you control it

Customers start by opening the settings in their AI assistant. For example, they can use the connector settings in Claude or the plugin section in ChatGPT. They are then sent to a sign-in page run by Finom. There, they use their own Finom login and give permission for the connection. The assistant can only access the information that the customer's existing Finom role allows. Finom login details are not shared with the AI provider. Customers can also cancel the connection at any time.

We are building this using an open standard instead of a system that only works with our own products," said Kristjan Kaar, CPO of Finom.

Starting with read access, with more to follow

When Finom MCP first launches, it can read account information and answer questions. It cannot take actions that change the account. Finom has chosen to start this way on purpose. The answers customers receive are created by their own AI assistants. This means the Finom app is still the official source for account statements and financial reports. Any information the assistant gets through MCP is handled by the AI provider the customer chooses, under the agreement the customer has with that provider.

"MCP is becoming the common way AI assistants communicate with tools people already use. We chose to use it instead of creating our own system. The most important technical work is not building the AI model. It is setting clear safety limits around it. Customers use their own login, the assistant can only access what their existing role allows, no extra information is shared beyond what they ask for, and they can turn the connection off," said Ivo Dimitrov, Chief AI Officer (CAIO) and co-founder of Finom.

The direction

Finom has explained its future plans in stages, without promising exact dates:

  • Today: Customers can ask questions about transactions, invoices, cards, wallets and accounting. They can also receive a morning update, all inside their AI assistant.
  • Next: AI assistants will be able to prepare some everyday actions for customers to check and approve. Secure identity checks will be used, and nothing will happen until the customer gives permission.
  • Later: More Finom products and services will be added to the same connection over time.

Pricing and availability

Finom MCP is included in all existing Finom plans and starts rolling out across Europe today. Any current customer can connect their AI assistant if their Finom role gives them permission to access the information they want to use.
