How OpenAI’s Value Jumped 50% in Seven Months and Is Still Going Up

OpenAI is close to getting up to $30 billion in new investment. The deal would give the company a total value of $1.25 trillion, according to several news reports. Investment company Coatue and investors from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are expected to lead the deal. However, they are still discussing the details, so the deal could change.
If the deal happens, OpenAI would become the most valuable privately owned company ever. OpenAI last raised money in March 2026, when it was valued at $852 billion. The new deal would mean its value had grown by almost 50% in just seven months.
OpenAI's value has been growing quickly, and so has the money it makes. In 2022, the year before ChatGPT launched, OpenAI made just $28 million. By 2024, that number had grown to $3.7 billion. Bloomberg also predicts that OpenAI will bring in $29.4 billion by the end of 2026.
By April 2025, more than 500 million people were using ChatGPT every week, and over 20 million people were paying for it. As ChatGPT became more popular, OpenAI's value grew from $29 billion in January 2023 to $157 billion in October 2024. Its value then reached $300 billion in March 2025, after SoftBank led a $40 billion investment deal.
According to CNBC, the UAE may offer OpenAI more than just money. The investment could be part of a bigger agreement that would let OpenAI use more powerful computers in the region. OpenAI has not yet commented on the report.
About a month ago, Bloomberg reported on a similar deal that would have valued OpenAI at $1.4 trillion. The newer report gives a lower value of $1.25 trillion. This suggests that the details of the deal may have changed since then. Such a high value would also create bigger expectations for OpenAI when it eventually starts selling shares to the public on the stock market. OpenAI secretly submitted the required paperwork for an initial public offering (IPO) in June. An IPO is when a company first offers its shares to the public. This means OpenAI could start selling shares to the public soon.
OpenAI is not the only artificial intelligence company trying to reach a record-high value. Its competitor Anthropic raised $65 billion in May, when the company was valued at $965 billion. Anthropic also submitted paperwork for an IPO in June. CNBC reports that Anthropic now wants its value to be between $1.5 trillion and $2 trillion when it starts selling shares to the public.
