On Saturday, Oct. 24, Thariq announced that he had left Anthropic after spending more than a year working on Claude Code, the company's coding tool. He said he would take a break before starting something new.

By September, Anthropic's engineers were merging more than 30,000 pieces of code into the company's codebase each day. Claude wrote most of the code being added, according to earlier reporting on Anthropic's engineering work.

Thariq often shared news about Claude Code's features and tips for using it on X. In his post about leaving, he told readers to follow Boris Cherny, Cat Wu, Addy Osmani, Lydia Hallie and Anthropic's @ClaudeDevs account for more updates. He did not say where he would work next.

Thariq said he had enjoyed his time at Anthropic and believed in the company's mission. He also said he trusted his coworkers to lead the company. He thanked the X community and called the job the most enjoyable work he had done, though it was also the most stressful at times.
