Claude Enterprise will combine chat and Cowork by default on November 16

Claude Enterprise customers can now use chat and Cowork together in the same conversation. Starting November 16, eligible organisations will get this combined experience by default. Administrators can turn it on early or choose to keep it off.

Anthropic announced on October 23 that the combined experience was generally available. This expands the combined experience first introduced for Pro and Max users in September. A conversation begins as a normal chat. When a task needs code to run or documents to be worked on, it can use a cloud computer managed by Anthropic.
Closing your laptop no longer stops the cloud task
The same conversation works across the web, desktop and mobile apps. Tasks carried out by the AI agent keep running in the cloud. Existing chats, projects, connectors, skills and plugins are also available in the combined experience.
Existing skills remain available in the combined experience. This image shows Anthropic's example of the Skills interface. Image: Anthropic
Anthropic says each cloud session runs in its own separate virtual machine. For Enterprise customers, network access from this environment is turned off by default. Connector sign-in details stay outside the isolated environment. Existing sign-in and compliance controls remain in place.
Customers still pay based on how much they use the service. A new Efficient mode limits the combined experience to the Sonnet and Haiku models. This gives administrators another way to manage costs, alongside spending limits for the whole organisation, groups and individual users.

Existing settings determine who receives the automatic change
The administrator guide explains that the November 16 change applies to organisations that have enabled chat and cloud code execution but have not already made an explicit choice about the unified setting. If an administrator has already turned the setting on or off, that choice stays in place.
Organisation owners can find the setting under Organisation settings, then Capabilities. They can choose Enable now or Keep disabled. They can also use custom roles to control which members have access.
Organisations that use zero data retention, a HIPAA-ready setup or customer-managed encryption keys cannot turn on the new experience yet. Their current settings will remain unchanged. This means the rollout will not affect every Enterprise customer in the same way.
