Washington, United States – The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has affirmed that surging, dynamic investments in artificial intelligence infrastructure are playing a pivotal role in maintaining global economic growth at a rate of approximately 3%. It noted that this trend is yielding promising benefits and fostering vibrant economies, particularly in Asia.

Supporting Asian investments and the positive demand shock

Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, stated—while participating in the IMF-World Bank Annual Meetings held in Bangkok, Thailand—that Asian economies involved in the manufacturing and supply of computer hardware, components, and advanced technologies (such as Thailand) are deriving direct and tangible benefits from this boom.

Georgieva added that the massive, record-breaking surge in investment directed toward artificial intelligence represents a “positive demand and investment shock.” It is also expected to boost growth rates in advanced regional economies by between half a percentage point and a full percentage point. Furthermore, growth rates in emerging Asian economies are projected to rise by between 0.2% and 0.8%.

Global Growth Balances and Calls for International Cooperation

The Fund’s Managing Director noted that this qualitative shift toward increased rates of technological investment is the key factor sustaining global economic growth at approximately 3%. This has occurred despite the pressures and setbacks resulting from the “energy supply shock” and rising global public debt levels.

Against the backdrop of these gains and the technology sector’s blurring geographical boundaries, the International Monetary Fund has called for enhanced international cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence. The aim is to mitigate economic risks and overcome the energy and debt crises that threaten the sustainability of growth in both emerging and advanced economies.
