ChatGPT leads Korea as AI app users and usage time hit record highs - CHOSUNBIZ

OpenAI's artificial intelligence (AI) model ChatGPT neared 25 million monthly users in Korea and kept the top spot in the Generative AI app market.

According to Wiseapp Retail on the 13th, ChatGPT's monthly active users (MAU) in Korea in September were counted at 24.7 million. No. 2 was Google Gemini with 9.87 million, and No. 3 was Claude with 4.04 million.

The number of users for the top three apps—ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude—all hit all-time highs.

They were followed by Microsoft Copilot (1.96 million), Grok AI (1.29 million), Perplexity (1.29 million), adot (1.10 million), Gemini Notebook (540,000), Wrtn (380,000), and Zenspark AI Workspace (320,000).

Both the number of Generative AI app users and usage time increased. In September, the total number of users of the top 10 Generative AI apps, excluding overlaps, was 30.75 million, up 19% from the same month a year earlier (25.93 million).

During the same period, the total usage time for these apps rose 64%, from 2.8 billion minutes to 4.6 billion minutes, marking an all-time high. The growth rate of usage time was more than three times higher than the growth rate of users.

The survey reflects Wiseapp Retail's sample of Android and iOS smartphone users in Korea.
