Fact Check: CJP leader Saurav Das used ChatGPT during a press meet? No, image shows Notes app on an...

Hyderabad: Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) leaders held a press conference at the Press Club of India in New Delhi on October 11 after being released from detention. They alleged that Delhi Police illegally detained them, seized their phones without proper documentation and denied them access to lawyers.

A short video captured during the press conference was circulated on social media claiming to show that CJP leader Saurav Das used ChatGPT during the press conference.

What does the video show?

The video shows Das speaking into a microphone while reading and scrolling through some texts on a phone screen titled “Unprecedented things that happened—”.

Several users shared the video online to claim that the phone screen shows a ChatGPT script. One such user shared the video on X and wrote, “Saurav Das needs ChatGPT for press conferences. Ganwar anti-India jokers !!” (Archive)

NewsMeter found that the claim is false. Saurav Das was scrolling through notes on an iPhone; he was not using ChatGPT in the video.

Here’s our analysis

We carefully reviewed the video and found that the text interface on the phone screen does not resemble the web or mobile app versions of ChatGPT.

One user in the comments pointed out that the interface belongs to the Notes app on an Apple iPhone and shared a screenshot of the app. We compared the screenshot with the viral video and found that the two interfaces look similar.

For further verification, we took a screenshot of Apple Notes and compared it with the text interface in the viral video. We noticed that both have a status bar at the top and a navigation and action bar with back, share and menu buttons. We added a comparison image pointing out the similarities.

Therefore, we conclude that the claim is false.
