Sachin Katti, OpenAI's head of computing capacity, is leaving next month after roughly a year in the position, according to The Wall Street Journal.

The company plans to notify staff of the change, with Katti expected to remain in an advisory capacity, according to the Journal.

Uday Ruddarraju, a former xAI executive, is set to take over OpenAI's computing strategy. He was promoted this summer to chief technology officer of computing capacity and reports to President Greg Brockman, according to the Journal.

Katti joined OpenAI in late 2025 to oversee the company's Stargate data center effort, according to the Journal. The project moved slowly at first after OpenAI failed to reach a deal with SoftBank and Oracle $ORCL -7.36%. OpenAI instead struck agreements with the two companies individually, and Katti added computing agreements with providers such as Amazon $AMZN -0.37% Web Services, according to the Journal.

Katti also worked to revive OpenAI's plans to lease its own data centers instead of renting capacity from other providers. In August, he helped secure a 10-gigawatt data center lease with SB Energy that carried a financial guarantee from Nvidia $NVDA +0.97%, according to the Journal.

The company has since lifted its computing-power spending forecast to roughly $750 billion by 2030, according to the Journal. That compares with a projection of roughly $600 billion earlier this year.

A separate executive who had been involved in managing OpenAI's data center expansion also departed during the summer months, according to the Journal.

OpenAI had pledged to investors in February to spend roughly $600 billion through 2030 on computing, in addition to a separate commitment of more than $1.4 trillion earmarked for AI infrastructure.

Katti's exit also follows a series of senior departures. OpenAI announced in August that Chief Revenue Officer Denise Dresser and Chief Operating Officer Brad Lightcap were leaving. The company submitted a confidential IPO prospectus to the SEC in June.
