Anthropic bans accounts to prevent election abuse

Anthropic PBC revealed in a statement on Wednesday that its teams continued to investigate coordinated abuse related to elections, including the midterms in the United States, with a goal of preventing this from happening.

"In one case, foreign-based operators of a fake news site used Claude to produce US midterm coverage favoring Russian, Iranian, and North Korean narratives. We’ve also observed threat actors seeking to exploit the election for financial gain, using Claude to produce fabricated news and other content designed to attract American audiences and generate advertising revenue," Anthropic detailed, adding that all of these accounts were banned.

Overall, the company said that it is doing its best to make sure Claude remains neutral but useful during the election season.
