KANSAS CITY, Kan. (KCTV) - Kansas Attorney General Kris Kobach announced he is suing OpenAi during a press conference on Wednesday.

Kobach claims the company is hurting Kansas children, deceiving parents and violating Kansas law.

“While Congress has deliberated about AI for more than a year, significant harms have been inflicted upon our citizens by OpenAI,” Kobach said. “State attorneys general have the power to move quickly to protect consumers, and I believe we have a responsibility to take action now without delay.

In the lawsuit, Kobach states ChatGPT is harmful to children and teaches users to commit suicide or harm others. He said research indicates ChatGPT harms critical thinking skills, encourages paranoias and delusions, gives harmful medical advice and promotes unhealthy relationships and behaviors.

Kansas joins seven other states who are suing OpenAi, including Iowa, Nebraska, Arkansas, West Virginia, Arizona, Idaho and Montana.
