OpenAI says a former employee shared more than 100 files about an unreleased product with a personal account before joining Apple, where the employee later presented the product to senior leaders. Apple denies finding evidence to support the allegations.
In a filing submitted Tuesday in federal court in San Jose, California, OpenAI alleged that the presentation took place months ago. The company cited Apple’s release of its HomeView product this week as evidence that Apple is now developing AI products of its own.
This is reported by Reuters.
“OpenAI is very concerned that its trade secret and confidential information is now circulating inside Apple, where Apple engineers can shape Apple’s upcoming products based on OpenAI’s confidential and innovative work,”
– OpenAI
Apple said it has policies and procedures to ensure new employees do not use confidential information from former employers, and that it has found no evidence supporting OpenAI’s allegations.
The filing is part of an ongoing trade-secret dispute Apple brought earlier this year. Apple alleged that employees who left the iPhone maker for OpenAI’s hardware division took confidential information with them. OpenAI has denied those allegations.
