Anthropic, which is pushing for an initial public offering (IPO), saw its third-quarter revenue grow 45% compared to the previous quarter, while also posting an operating profit for the second consecutive quarter.
Reuters reported, citing a source who attended the briefing, that Anthropic announced its preliminary Q3 revenue tally at $16.8 billion (approx. 22.5 trillion KRW) during a pre-IPO investor briefing held at its headquarters in San Francisco, U.S., on the 14th local time.
This continues a steep upward trajectory, following $4.7 billion in the first quarter of this year and $11.6 billion in the second quarter.
In particular, Anthropic told investors that it achieved a profit on an adjusted operating income basis in the third quarter, following the second quarter.
This is a contrasting scorecard to last year, when it recorded an annual revenue of $4.6 billion but suffered an operating loss amounting to $8.0 billion.
Anthropic's disclosure of its financial status is interpreted as an event arranged to flaunt its growth momentum to investors ahead of its listing process, which is targeted for next month.
Based on such improved financial conditions, the company's goal is to persuade investors and secure a corporate valuation of over $2 trillion (approx. 2,700 trillion KRW) upon listing.
The plan is to channel IPO funds to cover the astronomical costs of building and operating AI systems.
Anthropic had originally planned an October IPO, but with the schedule slightly delayed, the likelihood of listing after the mid-term elections in November is growing.
Rival OpenAI had also pursued an IPO within the year, but postponed its listing timing to next year considering AI safety controversies and corporate valuation assessments.
Anthropic did not respond to Reuters' request for comment on this earnings release.
