OpenAI said on the 15th that it has appointed Andreas Hartl as the inaugural vice president of sales for the Asia-Pacific and Japan (APJ) region.
Hartl, who took office on the 12th, reports directly to Brian McCarthy, OpenAI's global vice president of sales, and will oversee the region's sales and go-to-market strategy organization based in Singapore.
Hartl will particularly lead the OpenAI organization that works with major corporations in the region, including Commonwealth Bank of Australia, Samsung, and SoftBank in Japan. He will support corporations in expanding AI adoption and improving operational efficiency.
He previously served as senior vice president and regional general manager at the U.S. cloud security company Zscaler and held key leadership roles at Aviva, IBM, and Microsoft (MS).
Hartl said, "The greatest impact of AI depends on what people can accomplish with it," adding, "In the Asia-Pacific and Japan region, it is important to help corporations empower their people, solve the most difficult challenges, and create new growth opportunities."
Meanwhile, the Asia-Pacific and Japan region has the highest number of weekly ChatGPT users for OpenAI. This year alone, weekly users increased by nearly 90%, and during the same period, the number of ChatGPT Business and Enterprise users (seat) more than doubled.
In particular, Korea, Japan, Australia, and Singapore ranked among the top 10 countries worldwide based on the number of ChatGPT Business and Enterprise accounts.
