The New York Times has hired veteran technology journalist Cory Weinberg from The Information to cover artificial intelligence company Anthropic, according to a report by Lachlan Cartwright of Breaker.

Weinberg joins The New York Times after more than a decade at The Information, where he covered technology companies, financial markets and the startup ecosystem. He has reported on Anthropic since June, bringing direct experience covering the AI developer to his new assignment.

Before taking on the Anthropic beat, Weinberg served as deputy bureau chief overseeing finance coverage at The Information. He also worked as a senior reporter covering initial public offerings, reporting on companies navigating public market debuts and the financial considerations surrounding those transactions.

His reporting background spans technology startups, venture-backed businesses and capital markets, areas closely connected to the financing and commercialization of artificial intelligence. Anthropic’s growing role in enterprise AI has made its business operations, infrastructure requirements and competitive positioning important subjects for technology and business journalism.

During his tenure at The Information, Weinberg contributed to reporting that received industry recognition. He was part of the publication’s team that won a 2021 Best in Business Award from the Society for Advancing Business Editing and Writing (SABEW) for its coverage of startups and technology workers during the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Earlier in his career, Weinberg worked at the San Francisco Business Times, covering business developments in one of the country’s major technology and venture capital markets.

He was also a Knight-Bagehot Fellow in Economics and Business Journalism during the 2021–2022 academic year. The fellowship focuses on strengthening journalists’ understanding of economics, finance and business. Weinberg is a graduate of George Washington University.

The hiring brings a reporter with extensive experience in technology finance and startup coverage to The New York Times’ reporting on Anthropic. His background in private companies, public offerings and financial journalism provides a foundation for examining the commercial and operational developments shaping the AI company’s business.
