Anthropic, the developer of the Claude AI models, told prospective investors its revenue rose 45% from the previous quarter to $16.8 billion in the three months to the end of September, the BBC reported. The figures came at a briefing at the company's San Francisco headquarters on Wednesday. An Anthropic spokesperson declined to comment.

Revenue has climbed every quarter this year, from $4.7 billion in the first quarter to $11.6 billion in the second. Anthropic also reportedly told investors it made a profit for a second straight quarter. The company is expected to list before the end of the year.

The numbers land in a rough week for AI stocks. Broadcom (NASDAQ:AVGO) CEO Hock Tan said on Monday that many investors have set extreme expectations, and hotter-than-expected U.S. inflation data on Wednesday deepened the selloff in chipmakers. SK Hynix (NASDAQ:SKHY) fell 11% in Seoul on Thursday. Rival OpenAI said in September it won't go public this year as it addresses concerns about the safety of its technology.
