Nebraska attorney general announces lawsuit against OpenAI
Attorney General Mike Hilgers
Nebraska Attorney General Mike Hilgers has announced he is suing OpenAI for – in his words - hurting Nebraska children, deceiving parents, and violating the Nebraska Consumer Protection Act, the Uniform Deceptive Trade Practices Act, and the Age-Appropriate Online Design Code Act.
OpenAI developed and released ChatGPT in 2022, and according to Hilgers, has been misleading the public into believing it is a safe tool that puts safety first.
He said, the reality is, "ChatGPT has proven that it can be dangerous to vulnerable users, like children, including coaching users to commit suicide or to harm other people."
