Six METR employees will be able to examine Anthropic’s systems using access and resources broadly comparable to those of the company’s risk assessment teams.
Anthropic said Thursday it had granted a team from nonprofit AI evaluator METR employee-level access to its systems, allowing the group to independently assess the company’s advanced models, safety practices and risk management. The move follows concerns among researchers and evaluators that leading AI labs could exert too much influence over independent reviews through publication restrictions and control of access to sensitive information.
This is reported by Reuters.
The company said six METR employees had received company hardware, office space and access to internal tools and systems broadly comparable to those available to Anthropic’s own risk assessment teams.
Anthropic said METR would be able to publish independent assessments of risks, incidents and safety practices at the AI lab without prior approval. Only limited redactions would be allowed, covering areas such as customer data, privileged information and certain model architecture details.
