YouTube Music users will now label tracks created with artificial intelligence

YouTube is making it easier for listeners to know when a song has been created or changed with the help of artificial intelligence (AI). The platform has started adding a ‘Made with AI’ label in music tracks that use AI to create the composition or vocals.
This is a similar system that YouTube already uses to identify AI made or altered videos. However, the label will not appear on every song made with the help of AI tools. It is mainly meant for tracks where AI plays a major role in creating the music or singing.
YouTube has also asked music partners who upload songs to clearly mention when they have used generative AI.
In their blog, the YouTube team stated, “When you listen to a track on YouTube Music where AI played a significant role, you’ll see a label directly on the player page. Tapping the label opens a simple menu that shares more information. Our goal is to make it as easy as possible for viewers and listeners to have the right information and clarity when it comes to the music they listen to.”
The ‘Made with AI’ label has already started appearing in the YouTube Music app and is expected to reach the main YouTube app later.
Spotify has also taken steps to help listeners identify AI music. Earlier this year, the music streaming platform introduced a voluntary label for AI content. The team stated that they will not recommend songs from AI created artist identities.
From September, Spotify started to show a special badge on some artist profiles to tell listeners when an artist is created using AI rather than a real person. The platform said the decision was taken after listeners raised concerns about profiles that look like they belong to real artists, but they’re AI generated.
Apple Music is also reportedly planning to introduce a label to help listeners identify music created using artificial intelligence.
