OpenAI has launched a festive campaign for ChatGPT in India, introducing its new Hindi voices, Neer and Leher, through films depicting family challenges and individual ambitions in small-town India.

The voices were introduced in ChatGPT Voice with GPT-Live-1.1. The campaign's central film, The Notice, follows the Kumar family as they respond to a property developer's claim over their ancestral house and farmland, turning to ChatGPT for assistance in challenging the claim.

The film centres on the family's efforts to protect their home and farmland, which hold significance across generations. Neer and Leher feature in the characters' interactions with ChatGPT, placing the new voice options within the family's efforts to resolve the dispute.

Sheeladitya Mohanty, Head of Marketing - India at OpenAI, said, “We want AI to be useful in everyday life for people across India, whatever their language, age, or line of work. Neer and Leher, introduced with GPT-Live-1.1 today, bring natural Indian voices to ChatGPT. Building for India means making ChatGPT easy to use and suited to how people here speak, live, and work. Our goal is to make it a tool people feel confident using to help them achieve what matters to them.”

OpenAI said the campaign would expand through the festive season, with additional films following members of the Kumar family as they pursue different goals. The stories are intended to demonstrate how ChatGPT can be used for varied needs within a household and the surrounding local economy.
