Why did the American company terminate its agreement with "Enscale" without explaining the reasons?

London – Microsoft has terminated its agreement with British cloud computing company Enscale regarding a project to build a data center in Loughton, Essex, according to the British newspaper The Telegraph, on Sunday, October 18, 2026.
The newspaper reported that Microsoft recently halted the agreement, without disclosing the reasons that prompted it to withdraw from the project, according to Reuters.
Terminating the agreement without explanation
The available reports did not provide details on the factors that led to the termination of the agreement, nor did they include clarification on the next steps regarding the data center project or its fate after Microsoft’s withdrawal.
The American company is one of Enscale’s most prominent clients, as the newspaper pointed out that Microsoft is one of the British company’s two largest clients, highlighting the importance of the terminated agreement.
Artificial intelligence and cloud computing projects
The project comes in the context of expanding the infrastructure needed to run artificial intelligence applications, which require significant capabilities in data processing and storage, along with cloud computing services.
Major technology companies are investing in data centers to meet the growing demand for these services, while the details of the British project and its outcomes remain unclear in the absence of an official announcement explaining the reasons for ending the agreement.
Microsoft continues its international investments
According to published information, the termination of the agreement does not indicate a complete change in Microsoft’s plans to invest in data centers or artificial intelligence technologies, as the company did not announce the reasons for the withdrawal or any broader decision related to its international projects.
The reports cited by The Telegraph did not include details regarding Enscale’s position on terminating the agreement, or whether the British company intends to continue the project with another partner.
