Pump.fun Token Surges 8% After Launch of Pre-IPO Tracking Tokens for OpenAI, Polymarket
Pump.fun has officially launched tokens that track the market value and market sentiment of major companies before they go public through an initial public offering (IPO).
Powered by @PreStocks, the launch includes tokens linked to companies that have not yet gone public, along with paired memecoins. Before this launch, creating a memecoin on the platform required SOL or USDC as the asset used to price it. The stock integration means a memecoin can now use a specific pre-IPO tracking token as its pricing asset. This is why these pairs are called “Custom Pairs.”
The launch includes eight companies in the following categories:
- AI companies – OpenAI and Anthropic are in this group.
- Prediction market companies – Polymarket and Kalshi belong to this group.
- Robotics company – Figure AI builds humanoid robots that can work on their own and perform many different tasks.
- Neurotechnology company – Neuralink, another company created by tech billionaire Elon Musk, belongs to this group.
- Defense technology contractor – Anduril builds autonomous weapons for the military.
- Health company – Oura makes smart rings that track body measurements.
Following the launch, Pump.fun's token (PUMP) rose 8.41% over the past 24 hours to $0.004475.

The price rise is linked to the new custom-pair tokens. These tokens will add fees to the Pump.fun ecosystem, helping fund its system for buying back and burning PUMP tokens.
By late October, this system had permanently removed 17.2% of the token's fixed supply. Along with growing demand and successful projects, this reduction in supply may increase the token's value.

Caveats
These tokens only give users indirect, simulated exposure to the companies they track. They do not give token holders any shareholder rights, such as the right to vote, or legal ownership of company shares.
Another concern is that these simulated assets could reach extremely high valuations, worth trillions of dollars, even though the platform's total assets remain much lower. This could create a large gap between the tokens' stated value and the value of the assets behind the platform.
These tokens are also currently unavailable to all US citizens because they are classified as synthetic derivatives. The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) recently banned this type of asset while granting a five-year exception for innovation involving tokenized stocks.
Outside the US, users consider the 3%-5% fees on pre-IPO tokens expensive, especially for short-term trading that involves making many trades.
Critics
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin and Curve founder Michael Egorov have previously criticized the Solana launchpad, comparing it to a gambling den or casino.
On X, some community members raised questions about possible liquidity problems and whether the tokens meet regulatory requirements. Others said they were interested in taking part.
Memecoins paired with pre-IPO exposure to OpenAI and Anthropic. The trading scene now has a new foundation layer. I'm curious to see how liquidity works for these pairs compared with SOL pairs.
