Technical work with "Puzzle-AI"

Hwasun Chonnam National University Hospital has introduced an automated medical-record system that uses artificial intelligence (AI) to organize and enter the large amount of medical information created while caring for cancer patients.

Hwasun Chonnam National University Hospital said on October 21 that it had built a new automated medical-record system and started using it fully. The system combines speech recognition designed for healthcare, generative AI, and AI agents that can understand information shown on a computer screen.

The hospital developed the system with Puzzle-AI, a company that specializes in medical AI. When doctors and nurses speak about a patient's condition at the bedside, generative AI summarizes and organizes their words into documents in the correct medical format. An AI agent then enters the information into the hospital's existing electronic medical record (EMR) system automatically.

The system for doctors is called "Voice EMR." It turns spoken descriptions of a patient's symptoms, examination results, diagnosis, and future treatment plan into organized medical records and enters them into the EMR system.

The mobile system for nurses is called "Voice ENR." It lets nurses use their voices to record vital signs and notes about a patient's condition. The AI can automatically summarize nursing notes in different formats, such as bullet points, regular written paragraphs, or structured forms, depending on what is needed.

The hospital expects the system to greatly reduce the tiring, repeated work of writing medical records by hand and entering data on computers using a mouse. This should help improve patient care and give medical staff more time to focus on patients.

Lee Wan-sik, president of Hwasun Chonnam National University Hospital, said, "Building this automated medical-record system will meaningfully reduce the heavy paperwork burden on medical staff and further strengthen healthcare that puts patients first. We will continue to bring new ideas and improvements to our work as a smart hospital by actively adopting advanced AI technologies."
