Anthropic is entering the field of AI agents for work with 'Claude Duet,' an app for phones and the web designed for professionals and small businesses. Rather than doing simple errands or booking tickets, it prepares daily summaries, creates dashboards, and keeps track of ongoing tasks. It can suggest what to do next while work continues, stopping when it needs someone's approval.

Claude Duet can connect to more than 6,000 tools and services through Marketplace connectors. It also supports checkout through Stripe's Link or Shop Pay, but a person must approve a payment before it goes through. A built-in system blocks prompts that ask for credit card numbers or government ID numbers. Claude Duet is available as a research preview on mobile and the web for Pro and Max customers. People can join a waitlist to request access.

With more than 6,000 connectors, Duet can work across software that small businesses already use. This makes it easier to manage different tasks in one place. Requiring payment approval helps businesses try AI that can act on its own in office settings. It can help people work faster while reducing the risks of letting AI take actions without checks.

What's Driving This Trend

Managing Workflows with AI Agents
AI agents can track tasks, prepare summaries, and suggest what to do next. This creates opportunities for software that brings a small business's separate tasks together into ongoing workflows where people approve important actions.
Automation Through Connectors
Large collections of integrations let AI tools connect and coordinate apps that businesses already use. This could make it easier to automate simple tasks without moving to a completely new software platform.
Safer AI Payments
Approval steps and systems that identify requests for sensitive information make it more practical for AI to handle purchases. This creates opportunities for payment systems designed to make AI transactions safer and more trustworthy.

Who This Affects Most

Software for Small Businesses
Software used by small businesses could develop to include AI assistants that coordinate dashboards, tasks, and approvals across the tools people use every day.
Financial Technology and Payments
Payment companies may become more important as AI agents start purchases with people supervising them. This could change how payment systems handle business activities partly carried out by AI.
Cybersecurity
Tools that protect data and check AI requests are becoming more important as workplace agents connect to apps, customer records, and financial tasks.
