Anthropic, the company that makes the Claude artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot, has officially taken another step toward launching its first public stock offering, known as an initial public offering (IPO). The listing could become a major event in the AI industry. The company is five years old and has played an important role in the growth of AI that can create new content.

In a filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Anthropic said it plans to list its shares on the Nasdaq stock exchange under the ticker symbol “ANT.”

Anthropic filed for its IPO in June

Anthropic first sent its IPO paperwork to the SEC privately in June 2026. This gave the regulator time to review the company's financial information before the details became public and were shared with possible investors, CNBC reported.

The company has grown faster in 2026, mainly because more people are using Claude Code, an AI tool that helps people write and work with computer code. Anthropic has also developed powerful AI models, including Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5.

Disputes over Anthropic's AI safety policies

Anthropic has faced strong criticism for its views on AI safety, regulation and national security. These issues have led to two major disputes with the US government in recent months, creating more challenges as the company prepares to go public.

SpaceX's IPO and concerns about AI stocks

If the offering goes ahead as planned, Anthropic could enter the stock market just a few months after Elon Musk's SpaceX began trading on Nasdaq. SpaceX raised $85.7 billion, making it the biggest IPO on record, according to CNBC.

Companies known as neocloud providers, including CoreWeave and Nebius, have been hit by the recent market fall. Their share prices dropped by more than 30% in October. According to CNBC, this reflects growing worries about the risks faced by businesses that provide computing power and other infrastructure for AI.

Anthropic's IPO faces an uncertain market

Although Anthropic has filed its IPO paperwork and announced its planned Nasdaq ticker symbol, the offering could still be delayed or face other problems. CNBC noted that the listing could fall through, especially because market conditions remain uncertain.
