Anthropic: From public benefit corporation to mighty IPO ANT

Artificial intelligence company Anthropic (ANTHRO) filed its S-1 registration statement with the Securities and Exchange Commission on Monday. This document officially starts the public process for its planned stock market listing on Nasdaq, where the company plans to trade under the ticker symbol ANT.
The filing marks the end of a five-year journey that began in April 2021. Former OpenAI (OPENAI) researchers, led by Dario and Daniela Amodei, founded Anthropic as a Public Benefit Corporation focused on making AI safer. The company later set up an independent Long-Term Benefit Trust.
Anthropic entered the commercial AI market in March 2023 by launching its chat assistant, Claude. In 2024, it released the powerful Claude 3 and Claude 3.5 model families. These products helped establish Anthropic as a major provider of AI tools for businesses. As competition in generative AI grew, Anthropic formed partnerships with major cloud computing companies. Amazon (AMZN) and Alphabet (GOOG) (GOOGL) committed billions of dollars and provided the specialized computing power Anthropic needed to train its most advanced AI systems.
Anthropic moved closer to going public in May 2026. It raised $65 billion in a Series H funding round, bringing its value after the investment to nearly $1 trillion. Days later, the company sent a confidential draft of its S-1 filing to the SEC so regulators could review it privately.
Recent reports said Anthropic earned $16.3 billion in revenue during the first half of the year but also recorded large losses. These losses were mainly caused by accounting charges that did not involve cash payments and were linked to earlier funding agreements. The company had also made major commitments to computing resources. Monday's public filing moves the AI safety research company toward what could become one of the largest stock market debuts in technology history.
