A.I. Startup Anthropic Officially Files For IPO

Artificial intelligence (A.I.) startup Anthropic has officially filed the paperwork to sell shares to the public for the first time in an initial public offering (IPO). The IPO is expected to take place on the Nasdaq stock exchange by the end of November.
Anthropic's IPO prospectus, a document that gives investors information about the company, reports revenue of $16.3 billion U.S. in the first half of 2026 and a huge net loss of $80.7 billion U.S.
The company behind the Claude A.I. chatbot had $112.4 billion U.S. in cash and $19.3 billion U.S. in short-term investments on June 30 this year.
Anthropic also stated that it had more than 1,900 customers who each brought in at least $1 million U.S. in annual revenue for the company as of September 30 this year.
The company has not yet shared how many shares it will sell, the expected price range, or the exact date of the IPO.
However, Wall Street expects Anthropic to raise as much as $100 million U.S. through the IPO. Investors may value the company at between $1.5 trillion U.S. and $2 trillion U.S.
If Anthropic reaches that value, it could have the biggest IPO in history. That would beat the $1.77 trillion U.S. value given to Space X (NASDAQ: $SPCX) when it went public in June this year.
However, Anthropic is planning to go public at a difficult time for financial markets and A.I. stocks. In recent weeks, stock markets have been shaken by growing fears that A.I. companies may be part of a bubble, meaning their prices may be higher than their true value.
Last week, the Nasdaq index, which includes many technology companies, fell by nearly 700 points, or 2.60%, in a single trading session. Concerns about A.I. hurt investors' confidence.
